Biography
Young
but internationally recognized director of opera and theater,
Julia Pevzner's international operatic debut took place at
the Dallas Opera with a production of
The Queen of Spades in 2003.
She debuted in Europe at The Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg
with Der Rhinegold and Die Walkure
later in 2003, and at the Israeli Opera with Half
a Moon Tale in 2004.
She takes a special interest in new opera and musical theater
works, fringe theater, innovative productions, and teaching
career.
Pevzner has staged a number of Israeli new operas. Her recent
work includes La Serva Padrona and Der
Schauspieldirektor in Israel, Letters to
Orpheus – a poetical musical theater –
in Georgia, Boris Godunov at the Houston
Grand Opera, Nabucco at the Greek National
Opera, Eugene Onegin at the Virginia Opera
and others.
Her future projects include Nose at the Opera
Boston, Boris Godunov at the San Francisco
Opera, La Boheme at the Virginia Opera and
The Seven Deadly Sins at the Helikon Opera,
Moscow.
Born in Russia, Julia Pevzner immigrated to Israel in 1991
and speaks Hebrew, English, French, Italian and Russian..
She is a graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music
in St. Petersburg (Piano and Musicology departments) and holds
a B.A. degree of the Tel Aviv University (Linguistics and
French Literature Department). She began her career as a House
Producer at the Israeli Opera, and then as Assistant Director
to Francesca Zambello and revived Ms. Zambello's productions
at the Opera Bastille, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden,
the English National Opera, the Bolshoi Theater and other
theaters
